This exhibition marks the first solo show at the Red House Museum by Dorset based artist, Felicity House. The exhibition will showcase both retrospective and new works following the themes of people & places, and interiors & domestic subjects.Biography
Felicity House has had a passion for drawing from an early age. Noticing with a perceptive eye, consistently recording observational drawings in sketchbooks, together with years of life drawing, are the key to her skilled draughtsmanship.
Working directly from the subject, Felicity’s drawings have a relaxed spontaneity and freshness; she uses a wide variety of drawing tools including pastels which are hand held, and she enjoys the marvelous range of marks they make.
Felicity paints using watercolour and gouache, pastels and oils with a certain fluency. Very much inspired by the locality of Dorset, Felicity appreciates painting new places, both landscape and architecture. Equally she responds to domestic subject matter - intriguing arrangements and complex interiors. She has experimented in making spontaneous responses to locations, recording ideas in folded sketchbooks and incorporating collage into her work in a more exploratory way. Her studio paintings are also developed from sketchbook drawings.
Felicity’s teaching career includes more than ten years of adult art courses at West Dean College near Chichester and Figure Drawing classes at the Arts University Bournemouth. She is a member of Bournemouth Arts Club and Poole Printmakers, and nationally an elected member of the New English Art Club and The Pastel Society.
Felicity has featured in several Red House Museum Open Art exhibitions, and was selected as the Manager's Choice in 2023.
