About this Event
The Guam Preservation Trust, in partnership with the Inalåhan Mayors Office, invites you to join the Hotñu Repair and Revitalization Workshop! These hand-made dome-shaped outdoor ovens hold a special place in Guam’s history and heritage as a long-standing tradition of CHamoru cooking and food sharing.
Please join us for a FREE 3-day workshop (April 13, 27 & May 4) that will lead participants through hands-on activities that teach outdoor oven construction, operation, maintenance, and repair. Participants will be instructed by former Hotnu Bakery owner and lead baker at Sagan Kottura CHamoru, Mr. Tony Matanona, alongside his apprentice team.
The workshop will be held at the former Gef Pa'go property in the historic district of Inalåhan village. While the focus of the workshop will be to teach participants all of what it takes to create and use Hotnu, our community efforts will result in restoring the Hotnu in Inalåhan back to full operation and help to revitalize it’s use by villagers and visitors alike!
