We are thrilled to return to an in-person event as we reconnect with colleagues and build new relationships.
We will discuss the Value Analysis process employed by hospital procurement teams to consider new medical technologies. The discussion will focus on critical components of the Value Analysis role and its influence on health care delivery, new technologies impact on economics, and other variables influencing the procurement decision process.
The panel is led by John Strong, Chief Consulting Officer, Access Strategy Partners. He will be joined by hospital leaders Dr. Frederick Browne, President/Medical Director, Griffin Hospital; Jacob Groenewold, Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer, Froedtert Health; and Darren Vianeuva, Senior Vice-President, Trinity Health. Frederick A. Browne, MD, MBA, President/Medical Director, Griffin Hospital
Dr. Frederick Browne, ASPI Chief Medical Officer, is an accomplished, strategic healthcare executive with deep operational and clinical history of leading healthcare organizations via strategic planning, staff development, quality management and cultural transformation. Dr. Browne’s considerable expertise includes healthcare operational management, business innovation, population health education/strategy and community/medical staff engagement.
Dr. Browne has served since 2014 as Vice President & CMO of Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT, where his numerous responsibilities include VP of Medical Affairs, Infectious Diseases Physician, Hospitalist and nursing home medical director. In these roles, Dr. Browne effectively balances the clinical and administrative needs of the healthcare system, with a keen focus on population health initiatives in partnership with employed and independent members of his medical staff. With a passion for academic excellence and continuous learning, Dr. Browne excels at and enjoys his role as an Adjunct Professor in the newly-accredited Masters of Physician Assistant Studies program at Sacred Heart University in Stamford, CT.
Jacob J. Groenewold, VP and Chief Supply Chain Officer, Froedtert Health
Jacob is the Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer for Froedtert Health System in Wisconsin with 12 hospitals and $3.5 billion in patient revenues. Jake plans, directs and manages enterprise supply chain activities for the regional health network. This includes overseeing more than 170 personnel in key areas such as the Integrated Service Center, procurement, logistics and distribution.
With more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, Jake previously served as the area vice president and chief resource officer for AMITA Health in Illinois and Wisconsin, where he was responsible for supply chain management contracting, operations and logistics services for the 19-hospital system. Prior to AMITA, Jake served as the system vice president of supply chain at Presence Health in Chicago. Earlier in his career, Jake also held executive level positions with Vizient, Consorta, Premier, Owens and Minor and Lutheran General Health System.
Jake received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich., and his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago. He has many professional affiliations, including with the Health Care Financial Management Association (HFMA), the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management (AHRMM) and the International Healthcare Federation.
John Strong, Chief Consulting Officer, Access Strategy Partners
John Strong is a Co-founder and Chief Consulting Officer for Access Strategy Partners Inc. In his role with ASPI, John consults with medical device manufacturers and medical products and technology companies on strategic planning, sales, education, marketing, national accounts strategy and more. He is a 40-year veteran of the healthcare industry with leadership experience in healthcare providers, suppliers and service providers, and group purchasing organizations. In 2011 the Bellwether League (Health Care Supply Chain Hall of Fame) inducted John for “his outstanding contributions over the years to healthcare supply chain management, development, innovation and leadership.” His experience and expertise include healthcare administration, entrepreneurship, national accounts contracting, group purchasing, the roles of President, CEO and board member, and healthcare industry consultant. John has developed and implemented programs that have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in value for his employers and clients.
Prior to co-founding ASPI in 2018, John served as president of Greenhealth Management, a subsidiary of Practice Greenhealth. It operates Greenhealth Exchange, which is focused on developing specifications and aggregating green, sustainable purchasing volume to accelerate the adoption of better and more sustainable products in the health care industry. He also held executive leadership positions with Nexera, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of the Greater New York Hospital Association and served as the founding President and CEO of Consorta, a $5 billion group purchasing organization serving more than 350 hospitals. He participated in the development of programs providing more than $500 million in value to Consorta’s owners during his ten+ year tenure. John also served in several senior executive positions at Premier, Inc., a leading national healthcare alliance and GPO. He was a key architect of Premier’s contracting programs, member service and marketing operations, increasing purchasing volume more than eight-fold.
Darren Vianeuva, Senior Vice-President, Trinity Health
Darren is Senior Vice President of Integrated Support Services and Technology Sourcing For Trinity Health with almost 2,000 beds and $3.1 billion in patient revenues.
He is a seasoned proven leader in the healthcare industry having held executive level positions both in non-profit and for-profit healthcare organizations. His experience spans from operational positions in small rural hospitals to corporate leadership in large multistate health systems. Darren has delivered exceptional financial results through innovative cost reductions strategies, new business development platforms, and revenue growth initiatives. His 28 plus years of experience in service operations, cybersecurity, capital planning and budgeting, allocation strategies, system aggregation strategies, asset management, equipment planning and new construction management, supply chain management practices, service line excellence, and operations improvement has given him a unique blend of disciplines and experience.
Darren holds a bachelor’s degree in leadership and a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
