About this Event
Hosted by Clemson Extension & Horry County Stormwater
Join us for a hands-on, rewarding volunteer event at the Horry County Courthouse as we bring new life to the courthouse rain garden! Together, we’ll plant native perennials and shrubs, enhance stormwater management, and support local pollinators—all while learning and having fun outdoors.
What You’ll Do:
- Plant native perennials and shrubs (5.5" pots to 3-gallon containers)
- Tag & document plant species to support future garden care
- Place river rock along channel banks for erosion control
- Apply mulch to protect soils
- Learn about South Carolina native plants and sustainable landscaping practices
Your participation helps beautify Horry County and improves local water quality!
The rain garden captures and filters stormwater runoff from the courthouse parking lot, reducing pollution, improving drainage, and providing essential habitat for pollinators and wildlife.
💧 A rain garden is a shallow, planted depression that gives stormwater from roofs, driveways, parking lots, and compacted soils the opportunity to infiltrate and be absorbed, reducing stormwater runoff and associated pollution. Rain gardens are a popular and attractive way to manage erosion and moisture control issues, beautify the landscape, create wildlife habitat and protect clean water downstream.
