Guests Rackaback Morris Dancers
Wassailing is an annual tradition of blessing orchards to ensure a good harvest for the year to come. This Anglo-Saxon celebration, involving music, song and dancing, and traditionally took place on Twelfth Night. Nowadays, wassails are hosted between late
December and February.
It is tradition to wear bright colours and to make as much noise as you can (instruments can be used), to scare away any evil spirits and then we place pieces of toast soaked in cider, in the tree, for the spirit of the orchard (the Robin) and this is to encourage a good crop the following year. And there may be the singing of the wassail song. Join us, wrap up warm and bring anything to make a noise (drums, rattles, pans and spoons).
