About this Event

We have challenged Central Pa to plant 5,000 trees.

Right now, of the 1,400 miles of streams in Lancaster, nearly half are already polluted. And according to the The American Lung Association, our air quality is 27th worst in the country. If our water is polluted and our air is polluted, then the very quality of our lives here in Lancaster will be profoundly harmed.

Fortunately, we have a simple and efficient way to make positive change: trees.

The Big Do is challenging Central Pa to join with us in planting 5,000 trees by June 5th. Those 5,000 trees will positively impact the badly polluted Chesapeake Bay Watershed, by diverting 3.8 million gallons of contaminated water from local streams, and at the same time offsetting 130 million miles of car emissions.

And after we do that, we’re going to celebrate our work in the form of the The Big Do Music Festival -- a music festival designed to spotlight and celebrate local climate change and social justice work. The festival will take place on Saturday, June 5th at Penn Cinema and features six bands including The Districts, the Nielsen Family Band, and Laddie Moran, as well as local organizations and speakers there to share their work and inspire participation. Head on over to www.thebigdo.org to learn more.

Which is why we are inviting you to come to plant trees with us May 16th at 11:00 at The Horn Farm Center and work towards planting 5,000 trees in Central Pa. Any student who plants a tree will receive a voucher for half-off their ticket to the The Big Do music festival.

Please bring a shovel, gloves, and a mask.

Everyone will be required to wear a mask during the planting and social distancing will be enforced.
