Discover how methods can start an interdisciplinary conversation
About this Event

Understanding research methodologies from different disciplines can be a way of breaking down disciplinary barriers and starting interdisciplinary conversations. In these sessions we will challenge researchers from different disciplines to find commonality in their research methods and see whether this commonality might present a way to work together.

For the last of our online Methods Link sessions, please join us to watch Rachel Nisbet from the Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute and Nik Kapur from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences as they attempt to find commonality in their methods and approach to research.

As a participant, for this online session you will initally be asked to join one of our invited academics who will give you a short overview on the methods they use in their research. The second part of the session will be a discussion between the two academics to see where their methods or approaches may be similar. Participants will be invited to share observations and ask questions towards the end of the discussion.

Rachel Nisbet is a post-doctoral research fellow in Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute. She works in the field of material ecocriticism which investigates how fictional productions attune people to the Great Acceleration of elemental flows that animate biota and abiotic environments. Her current projects analyse poetic literary texts or stage adaptations, characterized by their rhythmical, formal arrangement.

Nik Kapur is a Professor of Applied Fluid Mechanics. His research interests centre around fluid mechanics, and in particular the application to manufacturing processes. He uses a range of computational and experimental techniques to understand both the fundamentals of processes and their application within industry.
