“Hope on the Move” benefits the ministry of FLM Haiti, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit that serves and empowers families in Haiti to help themselves. The walk this year offers a combination of live and “virtual” engagement, so participants can join in from their living room, basement, or backyard.
For those who can join live, FLM Haiti will practice physical distancing and other safety protocols as supporters gather to raise funding to advance HOPE (health care, opportunity, partnership, and education) in Haiti. Participants can gather in Highland Park, at Memorial Grove, to walk, bike, or run. Warm-up begins at 9:30 a.m. EST. The walk begins at 10 a.m. EST.
If you can’t join us on May 15, supporters have until May 31 to run, walk, or bike on their own or with family and friends and then turn in a donation.
The walk supports medical, education, and technical training outreach. Groups and individuals are invited to participate and can walk in teams, supported by their institutions of faith and community organizations.
Join with community dance and fitness coach Roland Ford as he leads participants through exercise and movement to prepare for the 5k walk, roughly about 3.1 miles. Cornerstone Network is a key sponsor.
FLM Haiti is more than 30 years old and more than 90 percent of the funding raised supports health and education measures. It also supports teacher salaries, food to feed the students, tuition relief, equipment, and medicine and supplies. The funding also supports the employment and development of Haitian physicians, teachers, guesthouse staff, and more.
Registration is $25 per walker and can be paid online at www.flmhaiti.org or on Facebook at FLM Haiti.
Registered walkers can purchase a T-shirt for $10; if you’re not walking, purchase a T-shirt for $35 to help support the cause.
