About this Event
Come enjoy a night of African cuisine, a silent auction of unique items, and Rhobi Samwelly sharing her inspiring story. A brutal procedure known as female genital mutilation (FGM) is forced upon girls in over 30 countries, including the USA. Over 200 million women are currently living with FGM, and millions more are at risk. These women live with terrible after-effects for the rest of their lives.
Come and hear the story of Rhobi Samwelly herself, who as a young girl experienced and almost died from this procedure. Rhobi has since opened a Safe House for young girls and travels around the Tanzania countryside fighting against this thousand-year-old tradition, educating both men and women on the negative effects of FGM.
The dinner and auction will contribute all funds to help Rhobi in the exposing of this horrific practice by producing a documentary of her life and work and assist Rhobi with her Safe House many needs. Please join us in this endeavor through the purchase of tickets, bidding and attendance.
