Hood Canal Dive Adventure
June 13 & 14, 2026
The Tri-Valley Dive Club has organized a dive trip to Washington State to dive Hood Canal June 13th & 14th, 2026! Hood Canal is known for calm salt water diving, almost like a lake! Many sites have walls and ledges with lots of life. June in Hood Canal is similar to Monterey with surface water warming into the 60s which can lead to algae blooms, but colder, clearer water can often be found at depth.
One day will be a two-dive experience on a local dive charter, Pallin Around Charters, and the other day will be a shore dive at a legendary Hood Canal dive site, Sund Rock. As the boat capacity is 6 divers, we will organize 2 groups. Group 1 will be diving the boat on the first day and doing the shore dive on the second day. Group 2 will do the shore dive on the first day and the boat dive on the second day.
Boat Dive
Pallin Around Charters: Pleasant Harbor Marina, 308913 US-101, Brinnon, WA 98320
Olympic Peninsula locals Captain Kelley and Chef Katherine will take our crew exploring on the Hood Canal in their restored 1969 36’ mahogany Grand Banks trawler for views, wildlife, and good times! What’s so great about diving the Hood Canal? Beyond the nearly ubiquitous Giant Pacific Octopus and Wolf Eels, there are Six-Gill Sharks, Lingcod, Rockfish, Nudibranch and so much more! Limited currents and calm conditions on a protected body of salt water allow the captain to comfortably boat most days of the year. $215 cost per person charter fee. Cost includes 2 dives, one meal and an optional dive guide. This fee is paid to the Tri-Valley Dive Club directly. Tanks, weights and air fills are not included.
Shore Dive:
Sund Rock: 26472 US-101 Hoodsport, WA 98548
As far back as the early 60’s divers have been drawn to the unique underwater structure and habitat of Sund Rock, named for the family who homesteaded the area prior to Washington becoming a state and who still own the property today. In the early days, divers were more of the hunter gatherer type. Divers would park on highway 101, hike down the steep bank at the state turnout, don their gear and set out for a long surface swim to the rock. Some would trespass and were chased out by the owners who had some rather creative ways to deal with a trespassing scuba diver! The relationship with the dive community improved and a mutual respect grew between the family and dive community. Divers now appreciate the family making the site accessible at a modest fee and the family appreciates the respect and care the divers have shown for the property, above and below the water. $25 cost per person. This fee is paid directly at the dive site entry gate. Tanks, weights and air fills are not included
