Join the Happy Wanderers for a walk at Hontoon Island State Park - a unique "hidden gem" location on the St. John's River that once served as a settlement for Timucuan Indians.Plan to be at the parking area at 8:30AM. Que for the ferry ride (6 passenger limit) for the 5 minute ride across to the island.
Registration is on the island, exit ferry turn right - picnic table in front of Ranger Station. Restrooms available at registration.
These walks are offered for AVA/IVV credit and rated 1A - flat & easy. The trails are gravel, dirt or grassy, and can be muddy in some places depending on recent weather - so we recommend you wear good sneakers (NOT white), trail shoes or hiking boots. Carry drinking water and consider sunscreen and bug spray.
Event cost is $4.00 for all walkers, except children 12 and under. Leashed pets are permitted.
The ferry carries no more than 6 passengers at a time, you will have to wait until they make one or two trips before you're next.
