About our Keynote Speaker:
Hal Boyd serves on BYU's president council as the chief of staff to BYU President C. Shane Reese. Prior to this appointment Hal was an associate professor and director of public scholarship in BYU's School of Family Life and editor of the Deseret News in Salt Lake City.
Hal is a fellow of the Wheatley Institute, and his writings on family, faith, higher education, and constitutional government have appeared in various scholarly and journalistic venues, including The Atlantic, The New York Times, CNN, NBC News, First Things and The National Review.
Hal is the co-author of "Are Christians Mormon?" (Routledge), "College for the Commonwealth: A Case for Higher Education in American Democracy" (University Press of Kentucky), and "Psalms of Nauvoo," (Religious Studies Center). Hal started writing this last book as part of his honors thesis here at BYU.
Hal graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011 with a B.A in Philosophy with University Honors. He then earned a J.D. from Yale Law School in 2016 and focused his studies and research on legal and governance issues involving higher education.
