Since the summer of 2023, a group of dancers from the Young Friends of the Hong Kong Arts Festival has been participating in an Artist-In-Residency programme led by Thai choreographer Pichet Klunchun and local choreographer Mao Wei. Throughout this transformative journey, the dancers have engaged in intensive research and development, shaping their own dance language influenced by the philosophy and cultural elements of khon dance and contributing to the creation of Flow.
NO.60 is the result of the Pichet's two decades of research into traditional khon dance, which has a 700-year history. This performance showcases the aesthetics of khon and explores its future possibilities. Pichet takes the 59 traditional khon poses as a starting point in NO.60, gradually deconstructing them and leaving the audience with an open invitation to interpret what could be the 60th pose. By revealing the essence of khon, Pichet presents a performance full of cultural significance and breathes new life into this ancient art form.
