Learn honeycomb darning - an unfussy visible mending technique, best used to repair knitwear like socks and t-shirts. Help keep your clothes lasting longer, saving you money and helping the planet.We'll work together through the technique on scrap fabric, covering how to mend thinning areas as well as where there's a hole, before getting you set up on repairing your own garment. Bring along a sock, t-shirt, or similar to mend. Smaller damage is easier for just starting out.
All tools and materials are provided (including scraps of fabric to practice the technique), but feel free to bring along any supplies or tools you have. There will be tea and coffee to drink as well as biscuits.
Please note, this class will involve small hand stitching, requiring a certain level of dexterity and close up work. Please bring reading glasses if you need them.
About the venue:
The class will be taking place in the Burgs room of Bayston Hill Memorial Hall. The hall has free parking. There is step-free access to the room and a disabled toilet in the venue.
About the tutor:
Kelly has been sewing for decades, but fell in love with visible mending about five years ago. Not content with just repairing her family's clothes, she regularly volunteers at Oswestry and Borders repair cafe, and enjoys the variety of mending styles she gets to use on the items brought in. She's passionate about reducing waste by repairing or repurposing thing that others might consider rubbish. She has a vintage darning mushroom collection she's trying (and failing) to keep under control.
