Orlando Science Center's monthly homeschool program is a great way to incorporate hands-on STEM learning into your child's curriculum!
Each course includes an in-depth lab workshop (supplemental pre/post activities are available online). Plus, explore our exhibits and catch a film in the theater!
Students will be grouped by age according to enrollment. This program is designed for students and their caregivers to enjoy together, but students 13 and up can participate in the program independently.
May is Amazing Animals Month!
Topics include:
May 3 or 7, 2021
Grades K-2: Powerful Pollinators
• Let’s get to the root of the problem! Use your STEM skills to design a pollination system and learn how plants grow. Allow your imagination to blossom!
Grades 3-5: Powerful Pollinators
• What do plants need to grow? Students will experiment with material properties to create a hand pollinator of their own design. In doing so, they will learn why plants are so important to life on Earth and how we can support their growth.
Grades 6-8: Step into Nature
• Have you ever wanted super strength like an ant or to fly like a bird? Dive into the world of discovery where scientists are taking their cue from nature to create technology to help us overcome everyday obstacles.
May 17 or 21, 2021
Grades K-2: Build a Bug
• The bugs have it! Students will learn about animal adaptations and the strength of the might ant. They will then use the Engineering Design Process to design a super strong insect.
Grades 3-5: Airborne Arachnids
• Discover the unique abilities that different animals utilize in the wild, and mimic a particular animal’s special ability by completing an Engineering Design Challenge!
Grades 6-8: Ocean Explorers
• Let’s talk about turtles! Students will learn how these marine creatures are integral parts of the ocean food web and track their migratory patterns in order to better conserve the species.
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. The program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information on this program and upcoming homeschool programs, please visit www.osc.org/homeschool/
