Did you know there is an exhibit in Maine where you can see a grand piano, a record player, and hear Wabanaki music? Have you ever visited the oldest home on the Portland peninsula? Do you know where you can see a cannonball on Exchange Street?This is your chance to experience it all! Homeschool families are invited to MHS for a day of exploring Maine history! Students and parents/teachers can visit the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, Longfellow Garden, and MHS exhibit galleries—including our exhibit Music in Maine—participate in a walking tour of historic downtown Portland, learn how to contra dance, sing sea shanties, and try hands-on activities!
*Please note that this is not a drop-off event, students will need to be accompanied by an adult.*
Drop in between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to explore at your own pace and participate in whichever activities interest you!
The Wadsworth-Longfellow House will be open from 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
Exhibit Galleries and Longfellow Garden open from 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Contra Dancing from 10:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
Sea Shanties with Castlebay featured from 12 p.m.–1 p.m.
Hands-on activities, scavenger hunt, and Portland walking tours available.
