HOMES (Homeowners’ Outreach, Mentoring, and Education Services) is a new housing program. HOMES assists seniors, veterans. and people with disabilities who qualify with assistance in completing the application for the property tax exemption. The income limit has increased to $84,000, enabling a larger group to qualify for this exemption.Launching in May, monthly workshops will take place where eligible King County residents will meet with counselors who will help them complete the forms to apply for property tax exemption. These workshops will take place every 3rd Saturday.
Eligibility:
-At least age 62 the first year you apply
-Disabled or a veteran with a service-connected evaluation of at least 80% total disability rating
Documents to Bring:
-Tax Return for the previous year
-Disability Letter
-Proof of Age and Identification such as WA Driver’s License
-Property Ownership documentation such as your property deed. Deeds can be obtained from the King County Recorder’s office, mortgage company, title company or KC Archives (pre-1992). The King County Recorder’s office phone number is 206 477-6620.
-Proof of Out of Pocket Medical expenses such as a doctor’s letter, bank statements showing deductions for out of pocket medical or pharmacy record. Your out of pocket medical is deducted from your adjusted gross income to determine your annual income.
