About this Event

In honor of Halloween in this Home School class we will explore the "wicked" side of plants that defend themselves with poisons, sharp spines, or by other scary means. We'll share a few interesting spooky stories from history about how people have used plant poisons either on purpose, or by accident. We will also learn about plants that harbor poisons many of us are unaware of, but that's ok, as long as we don't eat them! We will take a hike to visit a few and then make a fun reference guide to take home.

Home School classes are priced for one adult and up to two children to attend. The classes are primarily geared for 9 to 12 year olds. (Younger children may attend but the parent should be prepared to help them with certain activities.)

Instructor: Sandi Linn, Education Supervisor.

Prior to working at Leu Gardens, Sandi was the Director of Education at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, and then the Curator of Education at the Orange County Regional History Center. She is the author of Invasive Species, a YA fictional novel incorporating real environmental concepts.
