Join RIFF and Georgia Power for the film Home is a Hotel. Across America, cities are struggling with homelessness and housing affordability. Home Is a Hotel takes you inside San Francisco’s housing dilemma through intimate portraits of residents of city-sponsored single rooms, filmed over six years. It’s the story of an immigrant single mom in Chinatown, a blind songwriter fighting eviction, an ex-couple in recovery co-parenting a six-year-old son, a graffiti artist, and 20,000 others in San Francisco. All of them trying for better lives while living in 80 square feet.
In Rome, we need housing for those living at or near the poverty level. And we need to consider the projected growth of Floyd County over the next ten years and build housing for this huge group who will move into our county. Join Georgia Power, the film's creators and RIFF for a discussion of the film and housing issues throughout America.
Special guests will be the filmmakers who captured these remarkable stories, Kar Yin and Kevin Wong.
Special thanks to Georgia Power, Screen 417, The National Endowment of The Arts, The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, and South Arts.
