About this Event
Join us at Forge Baking Company for a hands-on workshop that delves into home bread baking. This class will offer a strong foundation for baking bread while also guiding you through the various stages of the bread baking process. Our three-hour session will cover how to create artisanal loaves using commercial yeast from start to finish. We will also discuss naturally leavened bread and create a starter that you can take home to make your very own sourdough bread.
What this class includes:
- A freshly baked loaf of bread
- Sourdough starter
- Bag of flour from a regional partner
- Salt from Curio
- A shaped round of Forge sourdough to bake at home
Prepare to be on your feet, stationed at a table, and using your hands. Come wearing comfortable, non-slip, closed-toe footwear. This class is tailored for those aged 14 and above.

When Jennifer Park and Tucker Lewis opened Forge Baking Company in 2014, their hope was to bring high-quality products with intention and care. With two additional cafes open, Diesel and Bloc, they wanted to have creative control of their bread and pastries in order to bring the best to the Somerville community. After 5 years of serving Somerville with naturally leavened hand-shaped bread, we are excited to share our knowledge for you to bring to your own kitchen.
