Synopsis: Seeking to retrieve his runaway wife (and the possessions she has taken with her), Coleman Shedman arrives at the rural meeting house of a southern Pentecostal sect with a lawyer in tow. But his wife, Nancy, is unwilling to forsake the love and protection of her new "husband," the Reverend Obediah Buckhorn, and return to the brutal, hard-drinking Coleman and when the strapping Reverend Buckhorn himself arrives, it is quickly evident that Coleman will not be able to take her back by force. Rich with atmosphere and the feel of southern rural life, the play blends humor and poignancy as it probes into the circumstances and stories of the various cult members-culminating in a gripping snake-handling scene.
Characters
Coleman Shedman (Male, 20s) hard drinking, quick to anger,irate husband in pursuit of his runaway wife.
Nancy Shedman (Female, early 20s) Coleman’s runaway wife looking to become the 7th wife of Rev. Buckhorn Sr.
Rogers Canfield (Male, 45-60s) Coleman’s lawyer, bumbling and ineffective. Easily flustered.
Rev. Obediah Buckhorn Sr. (Male, 60+) Pastor of Amalgamation Holiness Church of God. All gratuitous smiles that appropriately mirror the average televangelist, as surface and phony as the man should be. Loses his glib facade in unholy anger when challenged.

Obediah Buckhorn Jr. (Male, 30s) handsome but dimwitted preacher’s son whose new job at a bowling alley leads him to admit that "they just go together, Jesus and bowling,"
Mrs. Wall (Female, 50s+) former Sunday school teacher who was summarily discarded by her Methodist employers after 37 years' service. Leads the service. **Piano & singing skills a plus
Carl Specter (late teens-early 20s) mentally ill young man in constant mourning for a beloved bird dog that gave his existence its only meaning before he saw the light.
Bonnie Bridge (Female, 30s-40s) barely reformed, middle-aged Sunday School slut.
Howard Rudd & Orin Hart (Male, 30s-40s) a couple of rednecks with homo-sexual urges that they deny in service of Christ.
Virgil Tides (Male, 20s+) believes in a literal translation of Mark 16:18 and finds divine ecstasy in the handling of large, hissing, lethal snakes.
Lorena Cosburg (Female, 30s - 40s) spiritually lost, wayward housewife.
Muriel Boggs & Billy Boggs (20s-30s) young married couple, dealing unsuccessfully with the birth of a new baby.
Cancer Man (Male, 40s-70+) trying to deny his fierce physical pain.
**note ALL actors must be comfortable with basic group hymn singing
