On Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11 am, UCC Calgary is inviting for the Annual Holodomor Commemoration. We will be commemorating millions of victims of the Holdomor, the artificial famine-genocide of 1932-1933 orchestrated by Stalin.Holodomor – one of the most heinous crimes in the history of mankind, was the result of a deliberate political strategy masterminded by Stalin and his totalitarian communist regime. The Government of Canada recognized the Holodomor in May 2008 with an Act declaring the famine an act of genocide and establishing a national Ukrainian Famine and Genocide (Holodomor) Memorial Day. Similar legislation has been passed by the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.
On Friday evening November 22, 2024, there will be a candle light vigil at the Holodomor Monument in Calgary (located on Memorial Drive and Edmonton Trail). This vigil is organized by the Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM) Calgary Branch.
