Join us for a profoundly moving and educational experience as Holocaust survivor Dr. Alexander "Lex" Silbiger shares his personal story of resilience, survival, and hope. Through firsthand testimony, Dr. Silbiger will reflect on his life under Nazi occupation, his journey seeking asylum, and the refugee experiences that ultimately led him to the United States and, eventually North Carolina. He is also the author of Our Great Escape: The Story of a Dutch Family's Flight from Persecution (1942-1943), which chronicles his family's escape and survival during the Holocaust. The event will also include a 42-panel Holocaust exhibit from the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust, providing additional historical context and reflection for attendees.
Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker of Temple Emanuel will lead a memorial candle-lighting ceremony.
