Grow your gardening skills using sustainable strategies including companion planting, natural pest control, pruning techniques, and more!
About this Event

Build your skills around holistic garden managment practices with Oxbow's Garden Coordinator, Lynnea Zuniga. Explore topics such as natural disease and pest managment, companion planting, and crop rotation. You may learn how to transplant, prune tomatoes, and work with perennial vegetables. Activities will depend on the state of the garden at the time, but prepare to get your hands dirty!

This workshop is intended for those age 13+.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Lynnea Zuniga is a German Costa Rican farmer whose love for tending plants began in her grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s gardens in her small village in southern Germany. Passing neighbors would stop to chat over the fence, and she loved how the front-yard gardens knit neighbors together. Community-scale agriculture is still her idea of paradise. At university her degree focused on hand-scale organic agriculture, which led her to learn from Maasai farmers in Tanzania and W**d pineapple patches with Benabena farmers in Papúa New Guinea. She eventually found an impactful local gardening mentor, worked as a vegetable farmer, and then recently completed a Regenerative Ag certificate. She now happily finds herself as the Kid's Farmer here at Oxbow. Her passions include seed sovereignty, soil microbiology, labor rights, and agrobiodiversity. She believes farms are the first step in our healthcare system and strives to grow nutrient-dense veggies to support vital bodies and minds. She has lived off-grid most of her adult life and in her free time enjoys rock climbing and walking very long distances.
