It's time again for our annual Holiday New York City Hike!I've been considering carefully all of the things I still want to do in the city, and there's still so much.
This time, we'll do some stuff we've done before, and much we haven't.
The hike will start right at New York Penn Station and we won't be taking any trains.
Meet at the Christmas tree display in Penn Station, in the sort of mall section. There is a GNC in view behind the tree.
Instead, we'll walk direct, probably take Broadway a bit, and cut through Bryant Park. I plan to get on a little piece of the East River Esplanade that seems to be a bit different than the first time we did it, and then climb to the Queensboro Bridge.
We'll cross to the other side, then make our way through various waterfront parks on the east side. We may do a side trip to Roosevelt Island.
There are several waterfront walkways along the way, and we'll walk all the way to the end of Astoria Park, then backtrack a bit.
We've never walked the RFK Bridge, so that will be the next leg of the trip. The walkway doesn't go the entire way, so we'll get onto Randall's and Wards Islands again a bit, hit some of the trails we didn't do last time, then get on the rest of the RFK Bridge.
Finally, when we reach the other side, we will finally make our way into Crack is Whack Park.
After Crack is Whack, we'll head west.
I plan to head into Marcus Garvey Park, and then from there, south into Central Park.
By that time, we should have hit 13 miles and people will slowly start to disappear. Those who wish to continue may keep going with me through Central Park, and I may close in the loop for a longer distance.
