Holding Childlessness

1 in 6 women experience childlessness. This is a potentially complex journey with multiple layers. Parts of our identity and self-understanding are profoundly touched and challenged. In the holiday season, often associated with family and children, join us for this in person event based in Patcham, Brighton to connect, share and honour our experiences of childlessness. Held by two experienced facilitators who each bring their unique personal experiences and trauma-informed and compassionate skill-sets to support others who are navigating this path.

Alex Willumsen:

Alex found herself childless after a womb cancer diagnosis during fertility treatment in 2016. The diagnosis and unsuccessful attempts at building a biological family through several routes with her partner over a period of 6 years came unexpectedly and was alongside supporting the raising of her partners biological children. Transformation of her grief and exploration to understand her feelings better and support others Alex became a compassionate champion for childless step-mums and women and has held support groups and spoken on podcasts to raise the understanding needed of this complex and personal journey during the past 5 years.

Shaneen Joubert:

Shaneen is a trauma informed neurological occupational therapist. Shaneen’s work is informed by Compassionate Inquiry, a psychotherapeutic treatment modality developed by Dr Gabor Mate. She is currently completing her certification in this modality. Shaneen is experiencing childlessness through her personal experience of early menopause. She has presented her experiences at the Trauma and Menopause conference, and during World Childless Week 2024.
