Please read this entire message before registering!
I hope you've aired out your gear that got wet during last year's Hocktoberfest, maybe bought some new bearings, and shined up that helmet, because Hocktoberfest 2022 is coming soon!
If you haven’t played in one of these before, you’re missing out. "Hockey players" (and we use that term loosely around here) from around the area throw together "teams" to go to friendly battle for a pic with "the trophy" and some bragging rights. If that doesn't get you fired up, then you probably don't like the smell of a grill mixed with the scent of hockey bag, and you probably don't care much for the prospect of seeing shirtless men at a city park ?.
Hocktoberfest is a competitive but fun tournament with a short playoff. Each team will play between 4-6 games that consist of two halves (about 10 to 15 minutes per half, depending on the number of teams). There are absolutely no prizes other than a nostalgic trophy that will be briefly presented for photographs before being ripped away to be returned back to its safe home.
The tournament will most likely be held at Hill Street Park, since it has two rinks, though stay tuned to this invite for updates. If we have fewer than 6 teams, we may try to move the tournament to the (nicer) single rink at Riverwalk park on Shifferstad Blvd. Please check back prior to the day of the event for any changes. Games will start at 9:00AM sharp.
All interested teams must register for the event by Saturday, October 8. The cost is $60 per TEAM. The money covers rink/pavilion/restroom rentals, supplies, rink “fixes,” and shiny new pucks throughout the day. We will be playing with Pro Pucks.
Register your team by submitting your payment here (http://PayPal.Me/frederickharvey/60). In the transaction notes, let me know your team name, preferred Jersey color, and location (Hagerstown, Frederick, etc.). Remember, your team is not registered until you have submitted payment and provided this information. I will post up a list of registered teams and their chosen colors. If two teams choose the same color, the second team to register will be required to bring an "away" jersey of a different color.
Before registering, please make sure you have read and agree to all of the rules in this invite.
The schedule will be posted after registration closes, within one week prior to the event.
RULES AND THINGS TO KNOW
This is a 4 vs 4 tournament, plus goalies.
We want this tournament to be competitive, but negative energy or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. That means no cheap shots, complaining, arguing, or fighting. Failure to follow these rules, your game may be ended early and/or you or your team may be ejected from this and any future tournaments. Consider this your only warning.
REFEREES - The current plan is that we will all need to chip in and referee some games. After each game, AT LEAST ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM must volunteer to help with refereeing (to drop the puck at the start of each half, keep time, watch for obvious penalties, confirm goals, etc.). For the first game, two teams that are not playing will be asked to donate at least one player each. At least one of the referees will need to skate and wear a referee jersey. A stop watch and whistles will be provided.
Referees will call things if/as they see them. Please do not argue with the referees (see OTHER RULES below).
PENALTIES - Blatant, purposeful,or flagrant penalties will be called will be called by the volunteer referees. The player committing the penalty will sit in the sin bin for 1:30 (minor) or 3:00 (major/intentional), and their team will play short handed. For a minor penalty, the offending player is released if the opposing team scores a goal. If the referee does not see a penalty, they will not call it. Flagrant penalties, arguing, fighting, etc. will result in ejection from the game or tournament, and possibly future tournaments.
SUBSTITUTION OF PLAYERS - Teams do not have to have set rosters. However, trading/borrowing of players between teams should be avoided unless a team does not have at least 4 players and a goalie. If you lose a player or for whatever reason do not have at least 4 skaters and a goalie, please feel free to pick up somebody of average caliber from another team. We simply ask that any substitutions be both necessary and fair. In other words, just because you lost Scrubby McScrubberson doesn't mean you get to pick up Alexander Ovechkin. In other other words, if you lost a over-rated scrub, then you only get an Alexander Semin to replace him.
CANCELLATIONS OR REFUNDS - There will be no refunds or cancellations. If weather does not permit, a rain date will be chosen and posted on this page. Please ensure the commitment of your team before registering.
Alcohol and profanity are prohibited at the park. We have received warnings in the past for both, so please keep it clean and don’t ruin this for us.
