About this Event
A city’s history is never only one thing: there are multiple stories that cross over, conflict and sometimes eclipse one another.
The history of women in nipaluna/Hobart stretches back thousands of years, intertwined with and sometimes distinct from the history of the men. While the achievements of the men are often captured in place names and bronze statues, you need to look a little harder to find the women’s equally fascinating stories.
This International Women’s Day, and the weekend prior, join MACq 01 Hotel Storyteller, Colette, on an engaging, amusing and eye-opening 90 minute tour to discover Hobart’s women’s history, sometimes just below the surface and sometimes hiding in plain view (maybe even behind that big bronze statue of a bloke!). The tour takes in some of the City of Hobart's 'In Her Stride' Women's History Walk while also finding other significant women along the way.
This tour departs from the MACq 01 Hotel at 18 Hunter Street, Hobart and concludes at Salamanca.
All proceeds of this tour will go to Share The Dignity, for the benefit of those in crisis experiencing period poverty.
