HMP Shepton Mallet, sometimes known as Cornhill, is a former prison located in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. Originally first opening for operation in 1625. When it closed in 2013, it was the United Kingdom's oldest operating prison. Before closure Shepton Mallet was a Category C Lifer Prison holding 189 prisoners. The prison building is grade II* listed.
With hundreds of years of history, it’s no surprise thjs location is home to many deaths, suicides, murders and executions. The lost and confused souls of prisoners still wander the dark, harrowing wings of Shepton Mallet. Often ghost hunters hear their footsteps walking above, whistling, cell doors slamming and audible moans and groans.
