Hey everyone! Join us this summer for a History Tour (or two!) with our friends at Milwaukee County Historical Society. You'll learn a lot and have some fun as we explore our rivers and city by kayak. Spread the word!
Milwaukee or "gathering place by the water*" was built on a Great Lake and the Milwaukee Harbor welcomes vessels and other boaters to our great city. As they enter our Harbor, boaters have the option of exploring the KK River (south), the Menomonee River (west), and the Milwaukee River which winds through Downtown Milwaukee. The Milwaukee River extends many miles north with a history that extends far beyond. We're excited to share this history with you as we explore the Milwaukee River through Downtown Milwaukee.
Steve Schaffer, Archivist, and Michale Barera, Assistant Archivist and Digitization Specialist, from the Milwaukee County Historical Society, will guide us through Downtown Milwaukee as we explore the Milwaukee River, its history, the famous names, buildings and bridges that made Milwaukee, MILWAUKEE. Guides and safety boaters from MKC will be paddling with the tour too.
Launching from our main location, we will paddle as a group upriver as far as time allows before turning around and paddling back to our dock. We will make stops along the way, and will stay in our kayaks the entire 2 hours while paddling. If we need to stop and get out for some reason, we can figure that out along the way.
