Interested in the history that inspired George Hallmark's paintings in the Art from the Cowpasture Bank exhibit? Join us on Thursday 10/12 at 6pm for History Through Art: A Glimpse of Johnson County in the Paintings of George Hallmark. As a young volunteer, Dr. Anne Bailey helped with the research for several of the art works, including the pictured 'Race Day at Haley's 1885' which will be on display during Thursday's talk. Dr. Bailey, professor emeritus from the University of Georgia system, will also talk about working with artist George Hallmark and banker Lowell "Stretch" Smith Jr., whose love of history led him to commission these works. The free talk will take place in the Studio at the Cleburne Railroad Museum, 206 N Main, Cleburne 76033. (It will also be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.)
Don't miss more than 40 paintings plus a display on the bank's history and importance. 'The Mustang Foundation Art Collection: Art from the Cowpasture Bank' is open now and through December 30 at the Layland Museum, 201 N Caddo, Cleburne 76031. Hours for the free exhibit are 11am-4pm Tuesday through Saturday, with the exception of December 23-26.
