Strange, wild, historic and folkloric tales thrive among the trees, mountains, waterways, fog, and mists of the Pacific Northwest. Stories that have been handed down through the centuries range from the search for the Northwest Passage, shipwrecks and the “Graveyard of the Pacific,” pirates, sailors’ superstitions, natural and manmade disasters, Bigfoot, sea serpents, haunted lighthouses and other tales. Each city, town, and waterway has its own story. Professor Ira Wesley Kitmacher explores many fascinating legends of the Pacific Northwest.
Ira Wesley Kitmacher is an internationally published author of 𝑃𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐 𝑁𝑜𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑤𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝐿𝑒𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐿𝑜𝑟𝑒, 𝐻𝑎𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑃𝑢𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑, 𝑆𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑠 𝐴𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑖𝑎 𝑅𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟, 𝐻𝑎𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑃𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐, and 𝑀𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑀𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑙𝑒𝑠. Ira creates tours based on his books including the “Olympia History and Haunted Walking Tour” and the recently launched “Roaring ‘20s” tour in Olympia with Pretty Gritty Tours of Tacoma. Ira is the history commissioner for Thurston County and a professor with experience at universities ranging from Washington, D.C. to Washington state.
