Join us for a powerful History on Tap evening with Dr. Brent Campney of the University of Texas on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:00pm! Co-sponsored by the Johnson County Library, this special program will explore the history of anti-black racism and violence in the Kansas City metro area and eastern Kansas, from the turn of the 20th century to the eve of World War II. In addition, Dr. Campney will sketch out the rise of a sustained Black freedom struggle, which sought to challenge this racist brutality and vanquish the injustices of Jim Crow discrimination, segregation, and exclusion.

As a University of Kansas alum and professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande, Dr. Brent Campney has published over two dozen scholarly articles, essays, and book chapters as well as authored two of his own books through the University of Illinois Press: This Is Not Dixie: Racist Violence in Kansas, 1861-1927 and Hostile Heartland: Racism, Repression, and Resistance in the Midwest. He has degrees in American Studies from the University of Michigan, University of Kansas, and Emory University, and has taught for the University of Texas system since 2008.
