Seeing, Reading, and Hearing: Legal Ritual in 17th Century MaineDaniel Bottino is a doctoral candidate in history at Rutgers University. His research focuses on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century New England with a particular emphasis on Native-English relations in colonial Maine, material culture, legal history, and the Great Awakening. As a historian of Maine, he seeks to understand the region’s diverse societies and cultures, Native, European, and African, in the context of resistance to colonization in the early modern Atlantic World.
