About this Event
The third version of the Calgary General Hospital - a 160 bed facility - opened in the newly annexed community of Bridgeland on the north side of the Bow River in 1910. The growth of the hospital over the years mirrored the growth and development of Calgary and culminated in a Health Centre of almost 1000 beds. The hospital was closed and imploded in 1998. Today there is little evidence of the story of 'The General's' contribution to health care in our city. Join us to hear how the Calgary General Hospital evolved and served the health needs of Calgarians.
Deb Lee is a long term resident of Bridgeland - Riverside and fascinated in the history of her community, one of the earliest in Calgary.
Her background as a health professional and her interest in history has found a worthy focus in a project to commemorate the Calgary General Hospital. She's excited to share what she has learned about the hospital's past and its significant contribution to the health care of Calgarians.
