Please join the West Baton Rouge Museum on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 6-8 PM for Historical Happy Hour. In keeping with the style of his popular radio series, this month’s Happy Hour will feature Jazz and Blues historian, Zia Tammami conducting a live interview with Baton Rouge’s own Chris Thomas King. Join us for an insightful, enlightening and entertaining evening conversation between these two great legends.Zia Tammami is the host of the longest running Jazz Radio Shows in North America on KLSU and WBRH. He was the first recipient of Alvin Batiste Hall of Fame Award, and his Dinner Jazz with Zia radio program is now syndicated on Public Radio Exchange (PRX). Zia is the co-founder of River City Jazz Coalition, a well-known non-profit Jazz venue in North America. Over the course of his career, Zia has interviewed many legendary jazz and blues musicians including Ron Carter (Miles Davis bass player), Mose Allison, Frank Sinatra, JR., Natalie Cole, Herb Alpert, Dr. Billy Taylor, Max Roach, Charlie Musselwhite, Tony Joe White, Deacon John and others. Zia was featured on a French Jazz TV documentary about Jazz musicians' lives after Katrina and was featured in a documentary about the legendary jazz pianist, Bill Evans.
Chris Thomas King is a famed Grammy award winning Blues singer-songwriter and guitarist and the founder of The Blues Origin Institute. He is also an accomplished writer and actor. He is the author of The Blues: The Authentic Narrative of My Music and Culture, and his acting credits include Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? and Ray. Chris Thomas King grew up around musical legends including his father, Tabby Thomas, who no doubt influenced his interest in the Blues.
At Historical Happy Hour, the drinks are on you and the history is on us! This FREE event is open to the public. All are invited to bring refreshments to enjoy the evening’s entertainment that will take place inside the museum’s Brick Gallery.
