About this Event
Join novelist and educator Kate Anger in a workshop for writers and those interested in writing. Sensory imagery is a powerful literary device to engage a reader’s imagination. Tour through Heritage House like a literary detective, looking and listening for sensory details that you might employ to help your readers “time travel” to the past. We will look at works that engage the five senses, and try our hand at it as well; new work to be shared as time allows.
On The Shinnery by Kate Anger: “Through Jessa’s senses, the reader smells the wildflowers, tastes the cobbler, feels the textures of life in rural West Texas.” – Roundup Magazine, February 2023
Kate Anger earned both her BA and MFA from UC-Riverside, and taught creative writing, playwriting, and theatre courses there, and at other institutions for 20 years. Her historical novel, The Shinnery, is based on real-life events within her family, while two of her plays, Orange Grove and Sumi’s House, were inspired by moments in Riverside’s history. Kate's short fiction and non-fiction have appeared in journals such as Hip Mama, Faultline, Inlandia, and Cherry Tree, and her plays have been produced across the region.
