The Invasion of Canada, 1775: A Rev250 StoryRSVP at https://www.historicredhook.org/upcoming-events/tavern-trail-lastingjoy-sep25
Please remember that Lasting Joy Brewery is an open venue, so we will not be able to rigidly enforce RSVPs. However, letting us know you are coming gives us important planning information.
In the summer and fall of 1775, revolutionaries across thirteen British colonies in North America debated whether to separate from the empire or simply re-negotiate their place within it. In New York, revolutionaries decided that the best answer to that question was to invade Canada.
Join Dutchess County Historian Will Tatum for an action-packed ride through the forgotten first campaign of the American Revolution. Learn about prior invasions of Canada during the Colonial Era, which provided a template for the 1775 operation. Hear how the activities of revolutionary leaders in western and eastern Dutchess, covered in earlier programs, coalesced as the committees of safety worked to raise, arm, and equip the 4th New York Regiment to participate in the invasion. Meet the infamous Henry Beekman Livingston, a mere captain of the northern Dutchess Company of the 4th New York in 1775, who would rise to notoriety as the eventual colonel of the regiment and a terrible domestic abuser who would be disavowed by his own family. These scintillating details and more await you as we return to one of our favorite venues, Lasting Joy Brewery in Tivoli.
This event is Free and Open to the Public.
