About this Event

Are you interested in the history, imagery, and architecture of the Gilded Age? Join photographer Cara Gaetano for Historic Fourth Street in the Gilded Age: A Photography Workshop on Sunday, October 13, and Tuesday, October 22. The workshop will meet in person at the Massillon Museum on October 13 at 2:30 p.m. The workshop will begin with a brief lecture, which will include a brief history of the Gilded Age and its architecture, as well as helpful shooting techniques for the sites that this class will entail. Following the lecture, the group will walk to Historic Fourth Street and will photograph buildings constructed or opened during the Gilded Age. Students will also take part in a guided tour of Five Oaks Mansion, and are invited to shoot images in the building. Students should plan to be outside and wear comfortable footwear, and should bring their own cameras with which they are familiar using. The program will conclude at 5:30 p.m. on October 13. The group will reconvene on Tuesday, October 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom for students to share their images with the instructor and each other.

Cara M. Gaetano is an Instructor and Photographer who has taught classes and workshops at the Cleveland Print Room, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh Filmmakers School of Arts & Media, as well as through her own photography company, Ethereal Aperture Photo. Cara enjoys experimental camera processes and encourages her students to think out of the box with their images and subject matter. Cara enjoys the history of the Victorian era and Gilded Age, as well as imagery associated with that time period.

$45/MassMu member and $55/nonmember, and $10 cash to be brought on October 13 for the Five Oaks Mansion guided tour.

Register via Eventbrite or by calling 330-833-4061 by Thursday, October 10, at 4:00 p.m. This program is open to adults, and is held in connection with Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion and Fortune 1870–1900, on view in the Massillon Museum’s Main Gallery through October 13, 2024. Students are encouraged to visit the exhibition prior to the workshop date.
