In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, join The Creative Corner with Mrs. Diaz at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center for a vibrant celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month 2025 through art, storytelling, and culture! Inspired by the book Green is a Chile Pepper: A Book of Colors by Roseanne Greenfield Thong, illustrated by John Parra, and read aloud by Kansas Poet Laureate Huascar Medina, students will create a colorful mixed-media still life that blends tradition with creativity.Young artists will design a bowl filled with chile peppers, marigolds, and sugar skulls—symbols rich in Hispanic culture and celebration. Along the way, they will:
Mix primary colors to discover secondary colors
Practice shading techniques to add value and dimension
Explore how everyday objects can become works of art through color, pattern, and symbolism. This hands-on experience honors cultural traditions while teaching essential art-making skills in an engaging, kid-friendly way. Families are invited to celebrate heritage, creativity, and community through this joyful art lesson.
