Immerse yourself in Hisako's House, a compelling, multi-sensory experience of music and movement created by award-winning director and artist, Robyn Mineko Williams. Hosted in the 1950’s mid-century home where Williams' family lived and gathered for decades, audiences are invited in for a cinematic, promenade-style performance featuring renowned dance artists, Isaac Aoki, Jesse Obremski, Jie-Hung Connie Shiau, and Stephanie Terasaki, surrounded by music and soundscapes composed by acclaimed Chicago instrumentalist and musician, Macie Stewart. There is a max capacity of 30 guests per performance.

The promenade-style performance is designed to move from room to room throughout the space. Audiences are encouraged to follow the action as they wish, creating their own views and proximities to the work. The performance runs approximately one hour. Audiences are invited to stay after the performances for light snacks and refreshments.

The Performance and Family Meal experience on Saturday August 24, 7:30p includes the full performance followed by a family style dinner of Japanese American comfort food shared around the table with the artists of Hisako's House. This experience will run 2-2.5 hours.

Tickets will be treated as donations and received by Robyn Mineko Williams and Artists's fiscal sponsor, Unique Projects, Inc. Unique Projects, Inc. is a not-for-profit fiscal sponsorship program administered by Pentacle/Dance Works, Inc. Under the Unique Projects nonprofit umbrella, RMW&A is able to receive tax-deductible donations from individuals as well as be eligible for some institutional support.

More from Robyn Mineko Williams: Hisako’s House is a multi-faceted, interdisciplinary project rooted in an exploration of my Japanese American lineage, my family's experiences surrounding the incarceration of WWII and the intergenerational ripples of trauma, love, and resilience that followed. Part live performance and part documentary film, the project blends dance, music and soundscapes by composer, Macie Stewart, archival research, film and interviews. The house has served as a container for the project in many ways. My late grandmother, Nancy Hisako Nishimura, lived for decades in the midcentury home she and my grandfather built together during the late 1950’s. It is the house where my family gathered around the dining room table together countless times and a place that has been witness to the stories, dynamics, connections and ripples that I'm attempting to learn about today. The documentary component of Hisako’s House is currently in production. It will serve as another version of the work and include the making of the performance alongside interviews and archival footage from my family and speaking to the Japanese American experience before, during and following WWII.
