"His Health Matters Too! Let's Talk About It"

Moderated by NBC5 Chicago's Christian Farr, three black men with relevant educational backgrounds and life experiences, will talk openly about black men's mental health-a topic that many consider taboo. Black men often hold common misconceptions: that depression is normal, that talking about feelings is a sign of weakness, or that seeking help is sharing vulnerabilities with a stranger. However, health care disparities, racism, and lack of access to the right kinds of resources means that black men are 20% more likely to have serious psychological distress than their white counterparts.

Our Panelists, featuring Obari Cartman, PhD, Joel K. Johnson, MEd, and Bonnie Pete Thomas, MD, will help dispel these myths and demystify the the stigma associated with mental health. We are also very excited to be in partnership with Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton and Mr. Bryan Echols, Second Gentleman for this important event.
