Special Education Paraprofessionals assists students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Paraprofessionals generally work in a classroom all day, but may have a one on one with students as an assignment.

The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, helps special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health, and safety, affirming their abilities and striving to promote dignity in all relationships. The position also supports transportation drivers by providing safe and proper transportation by accompanying students to and from school.

Under Supervision of:

Behavior Supervisor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assisting students and special education teacher in achieving academic success by supporting in preparing materials as needed.

2. Working with individuals, small groups, or entire class in presenting instructional materials

3. Assist the teacher with accommodating and modifying methods for students with special needs, which may include creating supportive systems like PECS and visual schedules.

4. Assists the teacher in the training of basic academic, social and physical skills necessary to care for individual needs.

5. Record and maintain behavioral data for students, which may include completion of incident reports.

6. Understand effective methods to deal with verbal outbursts and other forms of resisting authority, and students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class.

7. Provide direct support to children with escalating behaviors which may include utilization approved techniques and strategies (training provided upon hire).

8. Assists students requiring specialized health care procedures and address immediate health care needs to allow students to function in a school environment.

9. Physically assist and instruct students with moderate to severe disabilities in performing activities such as moving about, using bathroom facilities, eating, toileting, dressing, maintaining body hygiene, or other activities as assigned.

10. Accompany students to/from and on the bus, playground, and/or cafeteria.

11. Consultation and collaboration with Special Education and related service staff, as well as behavior supervisor/director.

12. Maintain confidentiality in all respects.

Qualification Requirements:

1. Correct English usage, basic math, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;

2. Safe and sanitary practices in classroom and playground activities.

3. Problem and concerns of students with special needs

4. General needs and behavior of children.

5. Basic technology skills and usage.

Certificates and Licenses:

Preferred possess a valid Frist Aid Card, CPR Certificate and CPI Card.

Possess a valid unexpired Class C license with a passenger transport vehicle (PV) endorsement.

Must have no points on driving record and have personal auto liability insurance*.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to supervise children, maintain effective working relationships with children and staff. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.25 - $20.50 per hour

Split Shift Drivers:

Responsible for driving school vehicles for the safe transportation of special needs students. Drivers will have at least one aid in the vehicle to assist students physically, emotionally, and ensure a safe healthy environment while being transported. Drivers are expected to follow all California traffic laws, adhere to Stone Ridge Academy driver policy and procedure policy, arrive on time daily, and ensure students are picked up and dropped off safely at specific locations assigned.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Driving the vehicle in a manner that ensures the safety of all passengers.
  2. Supervision of students up to and including the securing of seat belts and other safety equipment.
  3. Reporting any mechanical failures at the end of each route or if necessary stop vehicle and report if it appears unsafe to continue driving.
  4. Refrain from unnecessary discussion with aids and students.
  5. Must be able to meet and interact with employees and parents/guardians in routine situations, which require tact, discretion, and courtesy.
  6. Must be able to follow directions to new locations.
  7. Must report any tickets and or/accidents immediately to transportation manager regardless if it is in a company vehicle or personal vehicle.
  8. Support the Mission Statement of Stone Ridge Academy
  9. Attend staff and team meetings.
  10. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  11. Any and all related duties as assigned per the Stone Ridge Academy Policy and Procedure Handbook.

Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/and or Experience:

H.S Diploma or Equivalent.

Minimum of 1 year in transportation preferred.


Certificates and Licenses:

Must possess a valid First Aid, CPR Certificate, and CPI Card.

Possess a valid unexpired Class C License with a passenger transport vehicle (PV ) endorsement. Must provide (MEC) Medical Examiner's Certificate Form. Must have no points on driving record and have personal auto liability insurance.
