Sitting for long periods of time, simply leading inactive lifestyles, or holding onto unexpressed emotions, can cause the psoas, a large muscle located in your core extending down to your pelvic bone, connecting your upper and lower body, to become tight and restricted. When you experience any kind of stress or trauma, it contracts due to the stress response being triggered. If not released, it tightens and shortens the muscle which can cause a wide range of problems like back pain, leg pain, hip pain, and even digestive issues.
Sometimes we are subconsciously holding tension for extended periods of time in areas of the body, and when those patterns are finally released the extreme amount of relief from that can bring on a wave of emotions or peace that can be quite powerful. As we stretch these tight muscles with hip opening stretches/yoga poses, we awaken the stored energy and encourage the release of emotions that have been held captive for far too long. This process allows us to let go of past burdens, traumatic events, and unprocessed emotions.
At Luna its important for us to make sure that we all feel safe in our classes in order to allow our body to fully let go and release what needs to be let go of. Know that when practicing with us if you ever experience any emotions arise you are encouraged to acknowledge them and release them however that may look for you. ♡
Minimum of 3 participants to hold class at this location.
