About this Event
Creative writers are invited to use devising techniques that assist with writing compelling hip-hop monologues for the theatrical stage. Prompts for the devised monologues will come from narrative hip-hop/rap songs from the 80s to today. Participants may choose a song from a prepared list of narrative hip-hop songs provided by the workshop leads or bring another narrative hip-hop song to explore. During the workshop, participants will spend time drafting a hip-hop monologue and, at the end, may share their devised works with the group for feedback. The workshop will be led by Alesyn McCall-Brown aka Al Wu, hip-hop artist, producer, arts administrator and artistic director of the BRED Hip-Hip Theatre Festival. Light refreshments will be provided.
This event is pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $20. Your donation, in any amount, allows us to continue our mission of producing Detroit's only Hip-Hop Theatre Festival. Learn more at
