A recipient of multiple accolades, including a GRAMMY Award, JUNO Award, and the Chico O’Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award, Durán is celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1953, and now based in Toronto, Canada, he has been recognized as one of the 10 most influential Hispanic Canadians.
Durán’s illustrious career includes touring as pianist and musical director for Arturo Sandoval, collaborating with legends like Dizzy Gillespie and Michel Legrand, and playing with the renowned Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna. He was even handpicked by Chucho Valdés to succeed him as pianist in the iconic group Irakere.
