About this Event
Please register here to confirm attendance (you will still need to plan accordingly to arrive at the final destination)
*Hike coming soon; exact details to be confirmed. Route is tentatively planned as a beginner-friendly path in Harriman State Park. Date may change pending weather (one day hike may be either Saturday or Sunday)*
EA NYC Volunteer Organizer Jacob will be leading the hike. Please see below for some (critical!) travel / meal planning and coordination.
The exact timetable details may change, but this will be similar to the final itinerary:
- 8:40 am: meet Jacob in Port Authority (south building, 40th St & 8th Ave), upstairs at gate 408. You can reach him on FB Messenger or at [email protected].
- 9:10 am: Short Line bus leaves for Tuxedo, NY (also goes to Middletown). You must catch this bus!
- 10:23 am: arrival at Tuxedo, NY and walk 10 minutes to the trailhead. See this handy map.
- 10:40 am: the group may be doing the "Claudius Smith Den and Lake Skemonto Loop" - see the map on AllTrails. 6.1 miles, "moderate" difficulty, they say ""average 2h52m"" but the group will go slower than that!
- 1 pm-ish: at some point along the route there will be a break to eat a packed lunch.
- 4:20 pm: catching the train (not bus) back, again from Tuxedo. There should be lots of time to catch the train in time
- 5:36 pm: after a quick connection at Secaucus, arrival at Penn Station.
Stuff to bring:
- COMFORTABLE SHOES - good traction, ideally some ankle support
- LUNCH, SNACKS, WATER - no restaurants/stores in the park, though don't overburden yourself either
- A hat, optional
- A mask, optional. Most of the event is outside and relatively covid-safe, but we will spend 2+ hours on the bus & train
- Transit fare. Bus/train is $14 each way = $28. Full-time nonprofit workers/students are eligible for an EA NYC discount, just ask
- Tick protection (ie. long pants tucked into your socks and/or repellant). Ticks can be active any time it is above freezing. Also consider closely inspecting yourself when you get home: the risk with ticks comes if you don't notice one for days.
- Energy! Please double check for updates to the hike difficulty level. A "moderate" 6-mile hike can be very different from a "mild" or "hard" trail!
Event description to be updated more soon!
