Highland Theatre Company is proud to present Radium Girls, the gripping and powerful drama by D.W. Gregory, at Highland High School's Monbeck Auditorium, located at 9135 Erie Street, Highland, IN 46322. The performances are scheduled for Friday, November 22nd and Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM, with a matinee on Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 PM.Set in 1926, Radium Girls transports audiences to a time when radium was hailed as a miraculous cure, Madame Curie was an international icon, and luminous watches were the latest trend. However, the dark side of this wonder element soon emerged as young women, who painted the glowing dials on these watches, began to fall ill with a mysterious and deadly disease.
Based on a true story, the play follows the courageous journey of Grace Fryer, a dial painter who dares to stand up against the U.S. Radium Corporation, her former employer. As Grace fights for her day in court, she faces opposition not only from the company's idealistic president, Arthur Roeder—who struggles to believe that radium could be harmful—but also from her own family and friends, who fear the consequences of her quest for justice.
Performed by the talented students of Highland Theatre Company, this compelling production will bring to life the emotional and ethical struggles faced by these brave young women and their pursuit of justice in the face of overwhelming odds.
