Challenge Information:
From Lady Peyton, our A&S Champion: I invite our artisans and researchers to step outside their comfortable niches. As we dive deeper into our craft, we naturally drift toward familiar eras, trusted sources, mediums, and tools; clinging to them because they’re comfortable and beloved.
This challenge asks you to spread your wings again, just like when you first discovered the SCA and, more specifically, A&S. Choose a manuscript resource outside your usual comfort zone; whether that means a different period, region, culture, or medium, and create something new (for our Challengers at least) inspired by something old. Bonus points if you can also talk or write about your submission, explaining what your usual comfort zone is and how this new piece pushes you beyond your normal wheelhouse. This is an opportunity for everyone to get a little experimental. I encourage the populace to think about that one thing they’ve always wanted to try and to take that leap. Winter may be a season of comfort and warmth, but for this challenge, let’s dare to shed a layer or two and see what new ideas emerge.
From Ollamh Ruaidhri an Cu our Brewing Champion: Good times and good company demand good drink, therefore, those wishing to become the Baronial Brewer should prepare two concoctions, one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic. Documentation is lovely but pleasing the palette is paramount.
Ollamh Lanea inghean Ui Chiaragain, our Bardic Champion is working on her challenge, but be sure to start practicing your craft while you await!
