He was a contemporary of Leonardo da Vinci, an inspirator to Pieter Bruegel, he was admired by Burgundian Duke Philip the Good and he was nicknamed the Devil maker. Yet we know very little about the man himself. For more than 60 years, Early Netherlandish painter Hieronymus Bosch, or Joen van Aken as he was called, painted from his art studio in Den Bosch. The city is filled with his art and his memories, and if you take a little more time, you'll feel like you might meet the painter himself.
For the second time in the history of Den Bosch Free Tours, we'll take you on a tour of the life, the art and the interpretations of the works of Jeroen Bosch. We'll be visited by famous scholars like Erasmus, the cartographer Gerardus Mercator and many more. We'll look at his paintings, visit real-life art and we'll even listen to some music made by Bosch. We'll cover life in Den Bosch, Brabant and the Duchy of Burgundy and we'll visit places he visited as well.
Join us on an artistic tour to the middle ages, to uncover the secrets of the devil maker himself. Due to Kermis, we'll meet up in front of the Dragon fountain (drakenfontein), for our second Jeroen Bosch Free Tour! The tour is in English and will take roughly 2 hours, we'll finish up close to the market. The tour is 100% free and independently organised. If you've enjoyed the tour, feel free to tip us, if you didn't enjoy the tour, please help us improve it!
